Lintang Tankworks Septic and sewage systems in PE and FRP

Wastewater & sanitation systems

Phase 1: 6 to 150 PE (population equivalent). Septic tanks and sewage treatment systems, each series with its own sample licence.

Typical section: horizontal bio-filter septic tank Section through a horizontal bio-filter septic tank buried in a sand-bedded pit on a concrete base. Raw sewage enters by the inlet pipe on the left and is turned down into the primary settling chamber. Settled liquid passes through a transfer pipe in the partition, down to the floor of the filter chamber, rises through the bio-media and leaves, filtered, by the outlet pipe on the right, which sits lower than the inlet. Two manhole covers sit at ground level; the one over the settling chamber gives de-sludging access. Diameter D, length L and water level H2 are given per model in the schedules; invert levels are to be confirmed. Standards and authorities

SIRIM QAS
Malaysia's product certification body. MS 2441-1:2012 covers PE and FRP septic tanks, MS 2441-2:2014 covers small sewage treatment systems.
SPAN
Septic tanks built to the Malaysian Sewerage Industry Guidelines Volume V and the MS 1228:1991 code of practice.
IWK
Malaysia's national sewerage operator; desludging every 2 years is typical.
EQA
Environmental Quality Act discharge limits; an LT system is designed to Standard A.

Three series cover 6 to 150 PE with no gap

6 to 150 PE. Up to 30 PE, a bio-filter septic tank treats sewage with no power. Above 30 PE, the LT adds air from a blower. Pick the series by PE first, then by site.

Measured PE scale, 0 to 150. PE Bio-Filter covers 6 to 18 PE with 7 models, FRP Bio-Filter 8 to 30 PE with 7 models, LT 40 to 150 PE with 8 models. 31 to 39 PE is served by LT-40. PE Bio-Filter6–18 FRP Bio-Filter8–30 31 LT40–150 0 25 50 75 100 125 150
Measured PE scale, 0 to 150 Circles mark model ratings. Dashed: 31 to 39 PE, served by LT-40.

Reading the range

  1. 31 to 39 PE: use LT-40, the smallest LT model.
  2. 8 to 18 PE: both bio-filter series fit. FRP adds high flexural strength and 150 mm pipes.
  3. Not sure of the PE? Lintang Tankworks offers PE calculation and SPAN / IWK submission.

No pump, no power, no moving parts

PE and FRP Bio-Filter, 6 to 30 PE. Sewage settles in the first zone, then rises through plastic bio-media and leaves by a lower outlet. The flow runs by gravity alone.

Typical section: vertical bio-filter septic tank Section through a vertical bio-filter septic tank buried in a sand-backfilled pit on a 150 mm concrete base over lean concrete. Raw sewage enters by the higher inlet pipe and is turned down into the primary settling zone, passes under the filter chamber, rises through the bio-media and leaves, filtered, by the lower outlet pipe to the drain. Manhole covers at ground level; the smaller opening gives isolated, direct de-sludging access to the settling zone. Four states of the water

  1. Raw Enters from the last manhole by the higher pipe and turns down into the settling zone.
  2. Settled Solids settle in the outer zone. The flow passes under the filter chamber.
  3. Filtered Rises up through the plastic bio-media: upflow anaerobic filtration.
  4. Discharged Leaves by the lower pipe to the public drain.
Power
None. No lift pump, no moving parts.
Desludging
Every 2 years, through the separate settling-zone opening. Refill with water after.
Tank
Leakproof. Resists rust and most chemicals in soil and sewage.

High-strength FRP for high water tables and deep burial

8 to 30 PE. The same upflow bio-filter as the PE series: no pump, no power, no moving parts. The fibreglass shell has high flexural strength. FRP takes over above 18 PE, and for deep burial at any PE by Lintang Tankworks' guide rule. On a high water table it is anchored and strapped, as drawn.

Horizontal FRP bio-filter tank anchored against a high water table End section through an anchor strap of a horizontal FRP bio-filter tank, cut through the tank legs, with the groundwater table above the tank invert. The tank stands on a 150 mm grade 30 N concrete base with one layer of BRC-A9 mesh, on 50 mm lean concrete. The base edge sits 300 to 600 mm from the pit wall, the working space. A 20 mm SS304 strap passes over the tank and is tightened with a stainless steel turnbuckle just above a 12 mm stainless steel hook cast in the base, so buoyancy is resisted by the straps and the base. The tank is filled with water to top water level before sand backfill is compacted in 150 mm layers. A 100 mm 1:2:4 concrete slab with BRC-A9 mesh covers the tank, with brick sump manhole necks and covers above. An inset long section, not to scale, shows the two necks, the straps, the top water level and the 150 mm inlet and outlet pipes laid at a 1:100 fall. Invert levels are to be confirmed. Aerated treatment designed for Standard A effluent

40 to 150 PE. A pre-fabricated FRP tank in two chambers. A diaphragm blower pushes air through a diffuser to treat the flow.

  1. RawSewage enters the aerobic reactor tank (ART).
  2. SettledSolids settle in the lower zone of the ART.
  3. AeratedAir from the diffuser treats the rising flow.
  4. ClarifiedThe final settlement tank (FST) clarifies it.
  5. DischargedTreated effluent leaves the outlet.
Typical section, LT small sewage treatment system (40 to 150 PE) Horizontal FRP tank with two compartments, in a sand-backfilled pit on a reinforced concrete base, under a concrete slab with two manholes. Sewage enters the aerobic reactor tank (ART) at the right, drops into the lower anaerobic settling zone and rises through the aerobic up-chamber, where a diffuser fed by blowers at grade (1 duty, 1 standby) releases air. A transfer pipe at the top of the sloped partition carries it into the final settlement tank (FST). Clarified effluent passes under the outlet baffle and leaves by the outlet pipe at the left, which sits lower than the inlet. Dimensions L, H1 (overall height) and H2 (water level) are given per model in the schedule; invert levels are to be confirmed. How the model is chosen

  1. Up to 18 PE: PE Bio-Filter septic tank.
  2. 19 to 30 PE: FRP Bio-Filter septic tank.
  3. Deep burial picks FRP at any PE up to 30, for its flexural strength: Lintang Tankworks' guide rule.
  4. A high water table suits both bio-filter series, so the model stays the same. Anchor and strap the tank to its base.
  5. 31 to 150 PE: LT sewage treatment, which needs mains power for its blowers. 31 to 39 PE takes the LT-40.
